Ingredient Modification in Spirit Pearls

As of May 16, 2022, we will begin selling a new batch of Spirit Pearls and would like to make you aware of two ingredient changes:

Spirit Pearls

In the volatile environment of the current Chinese herb market, no Suanzaoren (Zizyphus seed) could be secured that satisfied our quality standards for this material. Since the yin tonic effect of this herb is covered by a host of other ingredients in Spirit Pearls, we decided to exchange this ingredient for Lingzhi (Reishi mushroom) during this production.

According to the Divine Farmer's Classic of Materia Medica ( Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing 神农本草经), Lingzhi, which is often referred to as the Mushroom of Immortality, “treats binding inside the chest, boosts heart qi, supplements the center, increases wisdom and staves off forgetfulness. Eaten over a long time, it lightens the body, staves off aging, extends the years and [makes you] a spirit immortal", Sabine Wilms, PhD (you can find this book, along with her many other excellent translations of Classical texts at Happy Goat Productions)

We expect that this change will not only preserve the calming and anti-trauma effect of Spirit Pearls, but may actually enhance these attributes. We also have a less significant change with this new batch - we have used a different type of Cardamom/Amomum - replacing Baidoukou (Cardamom) with Xi Sharen (Burmese Amomum). Both of these herbs serve a similar function in this formula.
